ACTIVE SHOOTER PREPAREDNESS

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) aims to enhance preparedness through a ”whole community” approach by providing training, products, and resources to a broad range of stakeholders on issues such as active shooter awareness, incident response, and workplace violence.

Disasters affect everyone. And so it takes everyone - youth, parents, and community members - to help prepare.

NYS AWARE PREPARE PROGRAM

New York State is offering informational sessions to residents to provide them with the tools and resources to prepare for any type of disaster, respond accordingly and recover as quickly as possible to pre-disaster conditions.

SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY OUTREACH UNIT

The School and Community Outreach Unit (SCOU) was created in July 1999 following the School incident in Columbine High School. The Unit consisted of 9 Troopers and 2 Technical Sergeants. These Troopers, also called School and Community Outreach Coordinators (SCOCs) or Coordinators perform outreach activities.

FEMA EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT INSTITUTE: TRAINING FOR SCHOOL PERSONNEL AND OFFICIALS

EMI offers school officials courses supporting the implementation of NIMS as well as general courses aimed at building school emergency management capacity.

WEATHER EDUCATION RESOURCES FOR SCHOOLS

This page offers information for children, teens and adults. Materials range from coloring books, puzzles and games, to lesson plans, brochures, satellite images, and career information for weather related fields, such as meteorology, hydrology and climatology.

DISASTER MENTAL HEALTH PLANNING AND RESPONSE RESOURCES

In response to both natural and man made disasters the New York State Office of Mental Health has developed the following resources. NYS will continue to provide the citizens of New York State with the most up to date resources based on Evidence Based and Best Practices in the field of Disaster Mental Health.

STATE PREPAREDNESS TRAINING CENTER

The SPTC affords state, local, and federal agencies a complex of training venues that can be used for the entire spectrum of training. From classroom lectures and discussions to skill development lanes to reality and high performance scenario-based training, the SPTC offers opportunities for dynamic emergency first responder training.

THE SUICIDE PREVENTION OF NY

We all have a role to play in preventing suicides. Suicide is a complex problem, but through our collective action,  we can save lives. New York State is committed to preventing suicides. This site was designed to provide a comprehensive set of tools, information, and resources to support the effort.
